About the Artist
I received my BA in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota. I am currently working primarily in Alcohol Inks. I have a great interest in all things nature related and have tried to capture their unique beauty in my paintings. I have Retinitis Pigmentosa which is a degenerative eye disease that first causes a decline in peripheral vision As it advances the central vision and the ability to discriminate color is also affected. I notice as my vision worsens, my art has been impacted. Details in my limited field of vision become more important. I study the elements of nature more closely and attempt to share the beauty I see. Over time my use of color has become bolder. It has become more difficult to distinguish subtle variations so it is easiest for me to use a heavy saturation of color and high contrasts. My disease demands that I adapt my techniques and limit the time I work. So far, I have been successful at developing strategies to accommodate my changing eyesight.
