About the Artist
Twilah Hiari
I?ve always felt a deep calling to create art, but it wasn?t until life intervened unexpectedly that I had the opportunity to truly focus on it. Living with autism, immunological dysfunction, and auditory processing disorder, I faced a significant shift in 2014 when, at age 38, I suddenly lost the ability to read, write, speak, or count. My sensitivity to sound intensified. After a lengthy medical journey, I was diagnosed with adult PANDAS, a form of autoimmune encephalitis. I?ve since discovered that both PANDAS and my other conditions may stem from an inborn error of metabolism, which I?ll be evaluated for later this year. Due to ongoing sensory and immunological impairments, I can no longer participate in the workforce as I once did. However, this new chapter opened the door to my artistic journey. I transformed my basement into an ?art cocoon??a quiet, peaceful space free from overstimulation and distractions. It is in this cocoon that I?ve learned to make art, and I hope you enjoy the fruits of this creative space.
