About the Artist

Aimee Bungard

Aimee Bungard is an artist living and working in the hills of Appalachia just outside Pittsburgh, where daily life unfolds alongside creativity, family, and the natural landscape. Her work emerges from lived experience with worsening migraine disease and the gradual loss of abilities that once shaped meaning and identity. As preventative migraine treatments increasingly focus on manipulating neurotransmitters, Aimee has become deeply engaged with the invisible systems that braid brain, body, and being. Infinitesimal signals moving between axon and dendrite become visual metaphors for sensation, disruption, and endurance. The distance between measurable medical data and lived reality feels vast, and art becomes a way to bridge that divide. Through this work, Aimee documents a visual testimony to illness as it moves through life as an artist, partner, parent, and woman. Creating offers a way to honor what is changing while insisting on visibility, truth, and presence within that ongoing journey.

Location: On display at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute
