Rebecca Stapleton
Rebecca Stapleton’s creative journey began after a traumatic brain injury profoundly changed daily life and limited participation in work and community. Art entered unexpectedly when a friend sent a set of watercolors and encouraged simple play as part of recovery. New to creating, Rebecca initially questioned artistic ability and found watercolor especially challenging, its unpredictability clashing with a strong tendency toward perfectionism. Unable to attend formal classes, learning happens independently through library books, online resources, and many attempts that do not go as planned. Yet every so often, the work comes together, offering glimpses of hope, accomplishment, and renewed self‑worth. Over time, Rebecca has come to see art as a teacher, encouraging self‑compassion and helping quiet negative self‑talk while creating amidst significant challenges. The practice continues to shift focus away from perfection and toward expressing a personal perspective shaped by unique abilities, persistence, and growth.
